Wim Hof Breathing: A Beginner's Guide
Wim Hof breathing is 30 to 40 deep, full breaths in and relaxed breaths out, followed by holding your breath on an exhale for as long as feels comfortable, then a deep recovery breath held for 15 seconds. Three rounds take about 11 minutes. Most people finish buzzing, clear and a little amazed at what their body can do.
Guided practice
Sit or lie down somewhere safe. Never in water, driving, or standing.

Step by step
How to do it
- 1
Sit or lie down safely
Somewhere dry and steady. Never in water, while driving, or standing up.
- 2
30 power breaths
Breathe in fully through your mouth or nose, then just let it fall out through your mouth. Don't force the exhale. Find a steady rhythm.
- 3
Hold on the exhale
After the last breath, let it out through your mouth and rest with empty lungs until your body asks for air.
- 4
Recovery breath
One big breath in through your mouth or nose, hold for 15 seconds, then release through your mouth.
- 5
Repeat 3 rounds
Then lie still for a moment and notice how alive you feel.
