Breathwork for Beginners: Where to Start
Breathwork is any practice where you consciously change the way you breathe to change how you feel. Beginners do best with slow, gentle techniques like belly breathing, box breathing and rhythmic breathing for 5 minutes a day. You don't need to be calm, flexible or spiritual to start. You just need to breathe.

Step by step
How to do it
- 1
Pick a time
First thing in the morning or right before bed. Same time each day makes it easy.
- 2
Start with belly breathing
Two minutes of slow breaths, in through your nose and out through your nose, deep into your belly. That's it.
- 3
Add a pattern
When you're ready, try box breathing or in for 4, out for 6, always through your nose.
- 4
Keep it short
Five minutes is plenty. Showing up beats going long.
- 5
Don't do it alone
The free 7-Day Challenge gives you one guided session a day and a community cheering you on.
What it gives you
Benefits
- Less stress and anxiety within days
- Deeper, easier sleep
- More energy and focus, and a kinder relationship with yourself
After doing it
After your first week, conscious breathing stops being something you remember to do. It becomes how you steady yourself, and every other technique on this site opens up from there.

Tips
- Never force the breath.
- Sit or lie down for anything intense.
- Check in with yourself before and after. That difference is the whole point.
Make it daily
Turn this into a daily habit
Seven days is all it takes for this to stop being something you try and start being how you feel.
- Feel it working in your very first session. Most people notice the shift before the timer ends.
- By day three, the thing you came for starts showing up: deeper sleep, steadier nerves, real energy.
- By day seven, calm isn't something you chase anymore. It's how you move through your day.
